Hello, students and families! This Tuesday, September 29 and Thursday, October 1, 2020, We will be attending the (virtual) YWCA Racial Justice Summit with nine other educators from our Velma Hamilton Middle School Community. We are looking forward to bringing our learning back to the VHMS community, and our classes this year. Therefore, the classes we teach for your child will not be held on Zoom in live meetings on Tuesday and Thursday. Instead, students can access all of the materials for Tuesday and Thursday in their google classroom. We have included videos to explain the content within the assignments. Students will be working independently on coursework they are familiar with. We will be available to answer any questions from students via email throughout the day. PLEASE use our hyperdoc to help you through your day as we have made changes on it. If you are in Math 6 with Kruger/Welch, go to the live zoom link on hyperdoc. Ms Welch will teach class on Tuesday and Th...

Hello all. Mr K and I will be out next Tuesday and Thursday so all learning will be done on google classroom. Watch this video for more info! We have had fascinating conversations in Social Studies. Some examples: multiple perspectives, what marks the start of history, and when did big prehistoric accomplishments occur. In Language Arts, we held a restorative circle on Monday and are discussing our culture and how others like us are represented in social media and society.

Hello all. We hope that everyone is settling into the school year. We have had questions about how to see what assignments are due for you (or your child). Here is a one minute video on how to use the "to-do list" in google classroom. Video link. (If this link does not work, go to YouTube and google to-do list in google classroom). All teachers are adding their assignments to google classroom. For students who are absent from their Social Studies and/or Language Arts class, if there is no homework that day, there is a short video added to google classroom of what we discussed (NOT recorded during class) OR the assignment is posted in google classroom. MATERIALS pick up is Wednesday from 9-10:00 am or 1:00-2:00 pm for 6th grade families. Feel free to go at a different time if these hours do not work. In Social Studies, we are pushing for students to tie the past to the future and how we see the past today. We had already had some thoughtful conversations: "What symboliz...

We did it. It was not always easy or fun, but we managed. We miss being around 6th graders as it helps to explain all the newness when we are in the same room! We practiced: google classroom, zoom etiquette, introductions, and much more. We tried out some old and new tech. We lost internet and joined again. During the next few weeks, we will introduce ancient civilizations, share our identity and how it connects to our writing, begin to study microbiomes, and start math computations. Here are a few pictures from the parade yesterday!
